Ecology
The North Sea is under pressure. An ever-increasing group of users is taking its share, as a result of which nature has deteriorated in recent years. However, we believe that the new developments also bring opportunities for nature. By cleverly combining activities, for example with nature in a wind farm, both can reinforce each other and the pressure on the North Sea decreases, resulting in an improvement in ecology.
This transition getting things done requires vision, guts and leadership. In short, direction. With our broad knowledge of ecology, we take charge and bring the Netherlands to its goals on time.
What we do
ECHT invests people and resources in increasing the ecological carrying capacity of the North Sea. Based on the idea of SDG 14 'life under water', we cooperate with various projects in the necessary strengthening of the ecological space in the sea. We do this for The Rich North sea, by researching the ideal conditions for optimal nature enhancement and application at wind farms in the North Sea. We are committed to the unique opportunities of offshore wind for the promotion of biodiversity and nature!

Waarom wij ons bezig houden met ecologie
Beschermd natuurgebied in de Noordzee in 2023. Voor een rijk ecosysteem heeft de natuur de ruimte nodig om te ontwikkelen. Binnen de Nederlandse Noordzee is hiervoor in het Noordzeeakkoord afgesproken dat het in 2023 om 13,7% van de oppervlakte gaat, groeiend naar 15% in 2030.
Soorten in de Nederlandse Noordzee. Niet alleen vissen, maar ook verschillende wormen, planten en schelpdieren leven in de Nederlandse Noordzee. Zij vormen een belangrijk onderdeel van het ecosysteem.
Windparken waarbij nu al gewerkt wordt aan versterking van de ecologie. Windparken kunnen een belangrijke bijdrage leveren aan de versterking van het Noordzee ecosysteem. Inmiddels vinden er bij vijf windparken al testen plaats, en is ecologie een belangrijk onderdeel geworden van tenders voor nieuwe offshore windparken.
Sustainable Development Goal 14: Life underwater heeft als doel het beschermen en gezond gebruik maken van onze zeeën, oceanen en mariene hulpbronnen. Met ons werk dragen wij bij aan het halen van dit doel.

The Rich North sea
With The Rich North Sea, we are seizing the unique opportunity offered by wind farms to strengthen nature in the North Sea. This way we help our planet in two ways: sustainable energy against climate change, and nature development for more biodiversity in the North Sea.
We place artificial reefs and release oysters to help marine life flourish. In doing so, we are investigating what the ideal conditions are for optimal nature enhancement. We want to apply the knowledge gained in all wind farms in the North Sea.
