ECHT is geselecteerd door het Kenya Climate Innovation Center om ondernemingen in de Keniaanse afvalmanagementsector te begeleiden binnen het Sustainable Waste Innovation for a Future in Transition programma. Dit driejarige programma, gefinancierd door de IKEA Foundation, ondersteunt afvalbedrijven bij het ontwikkelen van innovatieve en circulaire businessmodellen.
Binnen dit programma begeleidt ECHT negen ondernemingen in Nairobi, Kiambu, Kisumu en Kajiado bij het versterken van hun marktpositie, commerciële strategie en groeipad. De focus ligt op het vertalen van circulaire oplossingen naar concrete marktkansen: van scherpe waardeproposities en marktanalyses tot praktische verkoop- en marketingplannen.
De begeleiding combineert virtuele en fysieke sessies op locatie bij de ondernemers. Daardoor blijft de ondersteuning niet abstract, maar wordt deze direct gekoppeld aan de dagelijkse praktijk van afvalinzameling, sortering, recycling, materiaalherstel en klantontwikkeling.
Met deze opdracht versterkt ECHT haar rol in Oost-Afrika als partner voor circulaire economie, ondernemerschap en systeemverandering. Door ondernemers te helpen hun verhaal, marktbenadering en commerciële strategie aan te scherpen, draagt ECHT bij aan sterkere afvalbedrijven, meer werkgelegenheid, betere resource recovery en een versnelling van de circulaire transitie in Kenia.
Het programma sluit goed aan bij onze missie: transitioning systems, empowering people. Circulaire economie ontstaat niet alleen door technologie of beleid, maar door ondernemers die oplossingen bouwen, markten ontwikkelen en lokale systemen stap voor stap veranderen.

ECHT has been selected by the Kenya Climate Innovation Center (KCIC) to support businesses in Kenya’s waste management sector through the Sustainable Waste Innovation for a Future in Transition programme. This three-year programme, funded by the IKEA Foundation, helps waste management companies develop innovative and circular business models.
As part of the programme, ECHT is supporting nine companies in Nairobi, Kiambu, Kisumu and Kajiado to strengthen their market position, commercial strategy and growth trajectory. The focus is on translating circular solutions into tangible market opportunities, from developing compelling value propositions and conducting market analyses to creating practical sales and marketing plans.
The support combines virtual sessions with on-site coaching at the entrepreneurs’ businesses. This ensures that the guidance remains practical and directly connected to the day-to-day realities of waste collection, sorting, recycling, resource recovery and customer development.
Through this assignment, ECHT further strengthens its role in East Africa as a partner in the circular economy, entrepreneurship and systems change. By helping entrepreneurs sharpen their positioning, market approach and commercial strategy, ECHT contributes to stronger waste management businesses, increased employment, improved resource recovery and the acceleration of Kenya’s circular transition.
